How to render in 3D?

Rendering in 3D is making a graphical representation of ahyper-realistic object or environment. These representations, depending ontheir uses 3d cad software, can be used in different sectors such as architecture, design or video games, among others.

A render is a graphic capture of a 3D object in whichtextures and lighting have been included, representing depth in a practicallyreal way.

Because these Renders are made with 3D rendering programs, they can view any type of viewing angle in the 360 degrees possible on thescene and models. They are hyper-realistic images that in most cases are used as a visual tool for a project that has not yet been fully developed. This allows us to have a previous concept and simulate the final results.

How is rendering done?

We know as rendering the process of creating graphicmaterial with this technique. A Render is created from calculations withmathematical formulas that interpret the influence and bounces of the 3D lights in the scene in the most natural way. This interpretation of light is calculated from the position in X, Y, and Z of the virtual camera contained in the 3D scene. This process is known as Raytracing.

You can do 3D rendering online or with digital programs thatwe have stored on a PC. 3D rendering software calculates the influence andbehavior of lights on objects, taking into account textures, materials or reflections. To finish the process, they define each pixel with its corresponding color and behavior affectation.

Although there are programs to make free renders at aprofessional level, the most common is to use paid programs. Some of them areUnreal Engine, Autodesk 3DS Max, Blender, Maya, Fstorm or After Effects.

There are two ways to render 3D. PreRendering and Renderingin real time. PreRendering is a process that is elaborated from the images togenerate a video.

Real- time rendering is used in video games and interactivedesigns and only renders what the user is seeing at that moment, saving theprocess of rendering objects that do not appear on the screen.

Application in various sectors

  • Architectural renderings are those that come from anarchitectural design made with 3D software. Typically, architecture is workedthrough drafting or design programs. In these software’s, the plans that will represent each of the spaces that make up the projects are generated. It can be from a house, a bridge, a building…etc.
  • Renderings in the field of interior decoration are used toshow a high level of reality and immersion when presenting the design of projects.
  • Rendering programs are often used to design and developvideo games. They can be used in different ways and allow you to create spaces, environments or characters.
